    Renting Camera Equipment

    By sirsnapalot | January 11, 2010

Do you have a nice camera and lenses that you’ve had for a while, but want to try something new?  Do you have a point-n-shoot, but would like to try out an SLR, to see if you might like one in the future?  Well, if you’re a cautious person with throwing around your money on new equipment, it might be worthwhile to rent some equipment before you buy it.  Or, just rent some equipment for fun to play with over a weekend or on a day off.

Over the Christmas holidays, I decided to do just that.  I rented two tilt-shift lenses (good especially for architecture), an ultra-wide angle (great for scenery and downtowns with big buildings), and a bellows, which is great for jazzing up your macro photo collection.  I rented these from Dallas Camera.

In the coming weeks, I will be blogging about these various lenses, what I learned from them, and what new directions I’ve taken as a result.  One, the super macro photo of salt in the previous blog, was the result of my rental.  Though I took it with equipment I already owned, I learned something from the rented equipment that led me to that photo.  Again, more in the near future, but wanted to sow the seed idea of renting equipment for you to think about.
